Who We AreJesus taught that He was building a kingdom. The economy and value system of His kingdom is very different from what we experience in this world. Here, the unjust often seem to suceed, and those in powerful positions often use their power to their own benefit rather than in behalf of those in need. Jesus made it clear that in His Kingdom those who are often "winners" in this life will discover that they are destitute in the next. Those who suffer now; the poor, the abandoned, the sick, the vulnerable, will enjoy God's blessing and provision in the next. The timing of Jesus' kingdom is unique. Jesus taught that His kingdom was "coming" - as a future event. At the same time, He said that even when He was still on earth, His kingdom was already here and growing, how can both ideas be true? The church: Every person who has put their faith in Christ as their personal Savior is given the gift of eternal life (John 3-4). Together these believers form the church, the expression of Jesus in our world. As followers of Jesus Christ, we seek to live according to the economy and value system of His kingdom. As such, the church is the "live-feed" of Jesus' kingdom. We at Crossroads (and other churches like us) are mini-expressions of the Kingdom of God. This does not mean heaven will be like church! But it does mean that we think of ourselves as outposts of Jesus Kingdom, so we try to live like we will when His kingdom finds it's full expression when He returns. |

Learn More About Us
There are many metphors of the church in the scriptures. Of those, one of the most signifigant is A FAMILY. Our church is not simply made up of families, it IS a family. Like any family, we support one another, encourage one another, and seek the best for eachother. We learn together, serve together, celebrate together. If one of us is suffering, we suffer with them...nobody has to go through life alone. Our pastors serve as "under-shepherds" who lead us. We follow them as they follow Jesus Christ, but ultimately each of us is called to follow Jesus as His disciple. Our church family is not the only expression of the church. We affiliate ourselves with the Brethren in Christ church, and fellowship with other BIC congregations in our area as a part of the Atlantic Conference of the BIC. For more information on the BIC church click here. We also acknowledge that many other churches, though not affiliated with the BIC, are also expressions of Christ's body, and as such are precious to us. Any chuch that can affirm the essential elements of our doctrinal statement is considered an extended family member. Click here for directions to where we worship. Our ChurchChurch is an interesting word. Usually, when people use the word church they are refering to a building. This is not what the New Testament is refering to when it speaks of the church however. The Biblical idea of "church" refers to the people who make up the church. At Crossroads we don't own a building. In our current economy we think renting our meeting space is wise. It keeps our overhead cost low so we can maximize our investment where it means the most - people. We also think using existing buildings is good stewadrship of creation. It is important to us that we take good care of our earth. That is not to say we are against owning a building, not at all. There are many advantages to owning your own building, and one day we may purchase one of our own. There is one more advantage to renting our meeting space; it reminds us all that buildings are not churches - We are the church! |
